Air Guitar Rock and Roll!

New Scientist: "Aspiring rock gods can at last create their own guitar solos - without ever having to pick up a real instrument, thanks to a group of Finnish computer science students.

The Virtual Air Guitar project, developed at the Helsinki University of Technology, adds genuine electric guitar sounds to the passionately played air guitar.

Using a computer to monitor the hand movements of a 'player', the system adds riffs and licks to match frantic mid-air finger work. By responding instantly to a wide variety of gestures it promises to turn even the least musically gifted air guitarist to a virtual fret board virtuoso."

big fish

World's Largest Aquarium Set to Open - The whale sharks are kings of the 6-million-gallon tank, their presence palpable even before they emerge from the murky darkness like massive star cruisers in a science fiction film.

But once visitors to the new Georgia Aquarium have seen Ralph and Norton — the only whale sharks on display outside of Asia — they will still have at least 99,998 more fish to go.

When the aquarium opens Nov. 23, it will become the world's largest by virtually all major standards of the industry.

wrestler death

No signs of foul play: "There were no immediate signs of foul play in the death of a World Wrestling Entertainment star whose body was found in a Minneapolis hotel room, authorities said.

An autopsy to determine how 38-year-old Eduardo Gory Guerrero died was planned for Monday. On its Web site, the Stamford, Conn.-based WWE said Guerrero's body will then be flown to Phoenix and funeral arrangements are set for Wednesday in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Guerrero, a featured star on the UPN show 'WWE Smackdown!', was in Minneapolis for a Sunday night WWE show at Target Center.

Authorities said Guerrero didn't respond to a wake-up call Sunday morning. His nephew, fellow WWE wrestler Chavo Guerrero, and hotel security at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center forced their way into the room and found the 5-foot-8, 220-pound wrestler on the floor. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

His nephew said Guerrero was open about past drug and alcohol abuse but had been sober for four years. Guerrero was married and had three children."

Rockin E-ville

CourierPress: News: "Vince. Nikki. Tommy. Say it with all the rockin' metal reverence you can muster: Motley Crue will be in Evansville for a Feb. 22 concert at Roberts Stadium."

This sucks.

Yahoo! News: "In a move that will likely spell the end of a TV show that critics love but never drew big audiences, the Fox network said on Friday it pulled offbeat comedy 'Arrested Development' from its schedule for the rest of the month.

Fox plans to air reruns of its popular new jailhouse drama 'Prison Break' in place of 'Arrested Development' through the end of November 'sweeps,' when networks go all-out to boost their ratings for the sake of local TV stations' ad sales.

Removing a struggling show during sweeps, while falling short of outright cancellation, is usually a sure sign a network has given up hope on a series.

In addition, Fox, a unit of News Corp. Ltd., said it had cut back its production order for 'Arrested Development' to 13 episodes from 22 episodes for the season.

A network spokesman said the show would return to prime time in December but the show's future beyond that had not been decided."

actually

If you use microsoft's Internet Explorer, don't. Click on the box on the right that says Get firefox. It's a better browser. Faster and safer, hardly any spyware. Good stuff.

And if you already use it, make sure the following is selected:

Go to Tools-->Options-->Privacy-->Cookies

Make sure that "for the originating website only" is selected. This eliminates the evil 3rd party cookies.

IE Cookies

If you use Microsoft's Internet Explorer, do this (full article):

Let's simply disable third-party cookies!

Microsoft hides the simple settings everyone really wants — and which all other browsers now offer — under the somewhat intimidating "Advanced..." button which discourages casual users from going there.

To access and change these "Advanced" settings, open any web browser window, then choose "Tool" and "Internet Options..." from the main menu. Next select the "Privacy" tab to see the dialog box we have been showing above.

Pressing the "Advanced..." button displays a simple dialog with exactly the settings every user wants. Now that you understand these terms, the settings you want to choose should be obvious to you:

Enable the "Override automatic cookie handling" option to enable the rest of the dialog's controls.
For First-party Cookies: Select "Accept" First-party Cookies if you want web sites to be able to remember you when you return. If you prefer to remain unknown and unidentified at the start of a return visit, you can choose to "Block" persistent first-party cookies while still allowing session-cookies.
For Third-party Cookies: You will always want to select "Block" Third-party Cookies to flatly deny any attempts by third-party Internet servers to use cookies to track your movements around the Internet. There's just no good reason to ever allow sites and servers you don't intentionally visit to plant cookies onto your computer.
For Always allow session cookies: This should always be disabled (not checked). Accepting first-party cookies includes accepting first-party session cookies, so web sites that require your browser to carry a temporary session cookie will operate without trouble.

But since "Always allowing session cookies" includes third-party session cookies — which is NOT what we want — leaving this option disabled is the only way to completely block both persistent and non-persistent third-party cookies.

The only time you might want to always allow session cookies would be if you were not always accepting all first-party cookies.

Once you have Internet Explorer's "Advanced" cookie settings configured as you want, click the "OK" button to accept them and IE's Privacy settings will show that you are using "Custom - Advanced or imported settings".

I have around 25 movies left and 7 1/2 weeks to watch them. Guess I need to pick up the pace a little bit.

we all think alike

The Baby Name Wizard: NameVoyager - the trends are strange. Why does everyone think the same way? Why does everyone name their baby the same thing?

guitar hero - it's like DDR only a guitar instead of a dance pad. Very cool. And harder than you'd think. Or at least harder than I'd think. But fun.

They also had a demo of the xbox360. Two games, King Kong and Call of Duty 2. Wow. The graphics were awesome. Awesome I say!
