I'm reading A New Kind of Christian and it has some interesting points. I disagree with a some major points that they make though, but I think there is some good stuff that can be mined from the other points they make. The book is about a postmodern viewpoint and I really won't go into what that means here because I'm not sure I fully grasp the concept yet. The main question I want you who read this blog to answer is:

baseball

I think maybe I've figured out why I'm not as excited about baseball right now. It happened last night as I was watching the best game of the year. Late in the game, score tied 1-1, bases loaded and two outs. Edgar Renteria is up. Now last year, you just knew he would pull thru in this situation. I don't have the numbers but it just seems like the case. On top of him being "Mr. Clutch," he had also made a couple of bad plays in the field. He has to get a hit, right? Isn't that the way it happens in baseball? One minute the goat, the next you are a hero? I made the statement, "I would be shocked if Renteria doesn't come thru here." I wanted to believe. They flashed some stat on the screen how Renteria was batting .125 against the pitcher. Edgar is having a slow start and my mind was telling me he has almost no chance of getting a hit. My heart was saying there's no way he can fail. Studies have been done by people smarter than I that show there is no such thing as a clutch hitter. My problem I think is I've got too much head knowledge in the game now as far as stats go and it has taken away my love of the actual game. I spend the whole game frustrated at La Russa or Tino Martinez or Cody McKay or Craig Paquette because player X has a platoon advantage in this situation and pitcher Y has shown that he can face righties too so why not leave him in instead of saying, "C'mon get this sucker out!" "Hit a homerun!" I'm going to try not to criticize as much basically because of the following quote:

A proper fit is THE most important step in finding the right running shoe. A shoe that fits will be snug but not tight. A common mistake that's a killer is to buy shoes that are too small.
Use the following guidelines to ensure a proper fit.
Check for adequate room at the toebox by pressing your thumb into the shoe just above your longest toe. Your thumb should fit between the end of your toe and the top of the shoe.


Check for adequate room at the widest part of your foot. The shoe shouldn't be tight, but your foot shouldn't slide around, either.


The heel of your foot should fit snugly against the back of the shoe without sliding up or down as you walk or run.

Wireless Access - Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library provides free wireless Internet access at Central Library and each of its seven branch libraries. Library customers need to bring their own notebook computers with a wireless network interface card and configure their notebook computers to use the Library’s Internet connection. The library provides electrical outlets, but a charged computer battery is recommended. The library recommends that customers wanting to use audio files bring their own headphones.

Wired Internet access is available at East, Oaklyn, Stringtown, and West branch libraries. For wired access, customers need to bring their own notebook computers with an Ethernet card and a 5 ft. patch cable.

Actors Whip Easter Bunny at Church Show

GLASSPORT, Pa. - A church trying to teach about the crucifixion of Jesus performed an Easter show with actors whipping the Easter bunny and breaking eggs, upsetting several parents and young children.

People who attended Saturday's performance at Glassport's memorial stadium quoted performers as saying, 'There is no Easter bunny,' and described the show as being a demonstration of how Jesus was crucified.
Melissa Salzmann, who brought her 4-year-old son J.T., said the program was inappropriate for young children. 'He was crying and asking me why the bunny was being whipped,' Salzmann said.
Patty Bickerton, the youth minister at Glassport Assembly of God, said the performance wasn't meant to be offensive. Bickerton portrayed the Easter rabbit and said she tried to act with a tone of irreverence.
'The program was for all ages, not just the kids. We wanted to convey that Easter is not just about the Easter bunny, it is about Jesus Christ,' Bickerton said.
Performers broke eggs meant for an Easter egg hunt and also portrayed a drunken man and a self-mutilating woman, said Jennifer Norelli-Burke, another parent who saw the show in Glassport, a community about 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
'It was very disturbing,' Norelli-Burke said. 'I could not believe what I saw. It wasn't anything I was expecting.' "

EMC (squared?)

I'm pretty frustrated with the whole Men's ministry experience that I've had so far. I'm supposed to be lining up people to help with registrations at each church service and it's not been going well. So far only Todd. Todd's friend who's name escapes me, Paul and Jeff Hudson have helped out. So yesterday I got to thinking about it and realized that I'm trying to hard to do it and not relying enough on God to get it done. And then during the Wild at Heart video last night John Elderidge was talking about doing stuff for God but trying to do it all by yourself. Without God = Godless. So I've been guilty of that and decided I'm just going to let God worry about getting guys to help out. Then after class I was waiting on Rick Riley to finish talking to some other people because I wanted to talk to him about the EMC simulcast. Something (err God) kept telling me to talk to this one guy there. So I kind of followed him around the room and then he left. Rick showed no signs of finishing his conversation so I left. Fortunately, the one guy was talking with Todd on the way out and I sorta met up with them. We walked past the EMC display at the welcome center and I mentioned the simulcast. The guy (Jim Habib) was pretty excited about the simulcast and said he was going. Then Todd asked him if he could say something on the radio about it. Radio? He works for 101.5. Sweet. I told him I had planned on putting it on the community calendar thing but he said he would take care of it and make an announcement too. He said just putting it on the calendar sometimes doesn't do a whole lot. So thanks Todd for doing what I was supposed to do. Maybe I'll learn something from this. Also Todd's been the best volunteer so far. I think he really likes it and if anyone ever wants him to help them with something I'm sure he'd love it if you'd just axe him.
