Maybe Germans don't love David Hasselhoff

57 Channels and something on

Top 10 shows on tv (no particular order):

  • Myth Busters - Discover

  • Sell This House - A&E

  • Inside This Old House - A&E

  • The Screen Savers - Tech TV

  • College Hoops - ESPN/FSN/ABC/CBS

  • Most Extreme Elimination - Spike TV

  • Call For Help - Tech TV

  • Sportscenter - ESPN

  • American Idol (just the tryouts, rest of the show is lame) - Fox

  • That 70s Show - Fox (but I never know when it is on)

Speaking of not knowing when it is on. Don't you hate it when they move a show that you like froma time slot that you are familiar with. They did this with King of Queens and now I will never see it again. It used to be on Mondays. Easy enough. Now, I have no idea when it is on. A quick search shows Wednesdays. I will never remember this. This happens all the time. Stop messing with stuff, people.

Yahoo! News - Brady Says Patriots Must Target the End Zone: "...but we need to put the ball in the end zone. " Brilliant! I don't know if anyone has ever tried this strategy before...

Dean Palmer was still in the league?

Goal update

Well well well. I've come to a small standstill lately. Business should be picking up soon, however. We should pay off Best Buy soon (our tv actually becomes "our" tv). I'm also going to be building my computer. That should be frustrating, err fun. Other than that I don't see anything getting accomplished soon. Luke's birth has slowed down the debt paying as the bills just keep coming in. I'm about ready to start doing some cardio so that may help the lose 20 lbs thing. I still haven't decided when I will do that. I could go crazy and run the 5k coming up in March. But I don't think so.

New favorite show

Discovery Channel :: MythBusters - what a cool show. These guys are visual-effects artists and they prove or disprove urban legends on their show. Very cool stuff. Last night they created a chicken gun and shot a frozen chicken and a thawed chicken through a windshield of an airplane to see which would cause the most damage. They also had an episode where they shot a hole in an airplane window to see if it would suck the people out of the hole, like on movies. Great show.

Ironic?

I've given up on reading How to Read a Book. Is that irony? It's just too boring and long. I think I can read pretty well, so I'll see if I can survive without it. Moving on to the next books. Online! the book just came in at the library and also To End All Wars came in as well. Didn't think they would process so quickly. Guess I'll bump them up in the reading order. I'm looking forward to reading True Notebooks as well. I miss my lunchtime reading, but I enjoy working out then so it's ok. I need to find a new consistent reading time.

Please don't correct me, it sickens me.

I had not one but two people come up to me at the Y today and correct my form. Maybe I'm just extra tired today. I had an easier time listening to the one guy because he was frickin huge. I'll take his advice and do smith machine shoulder presses instead of regular shoulder presses. Ouch. Very ouch. The other was on calf raises. My back it seems is getting all the work on those exercises. How come my back never hurts but my shoulders and calves do?

"Partake of wordly pleasures when you deem them of higher quality than those that are godly." Lau 7:15

- Todd

Come on, you know that's not what she meant. Christian things, godly things should be higher quality than non-godly things. At least the same quality. I'm embarrassed by the quality of most christian films. Do I let the poor acting and storytelling slide just because they are christians? Tell me that you only watch christian movies, listen to christian music, and read christian books. Shouldn't the christian community be striving to be the best at whatever they do? I'm excited about The Passion because it looks to be high quality. I want to see To End All Wars because it's supposed to be high quality. I don't want to see Omega Code 2: Megidido because it's embarrassing. If the christian filmmaking world is serving crap, I'm not eating.

Basil is the devil

Man, I'm putting together my dream system for pc building pleasure. Basically seeing if I can build one cheaper than I can get one from Dell. We shall see. So far so good. I was waffling on the P4 3.0 Ghz but the hyperthreading pushed me over the edge. I'm in. Now to find a good video card and determine whether I get a capture card or some sort of converter. Time will tell. The hardest part will be convincing Laura that this is a good deal. It is.

Christmas in January

Got a new computer at work today. 2.4 Ghz with a DVD-RW + on it. 2 40gig hard drives and 512MB of ram. Not too shabby. I'm working on getting everything setup properly on it. Right now I have a switch in my cubicle with two computers hooked up. I'm going to bring my laptop in sometime and get it going as well since I can't get online with it at home right now. I messed up my router at home and I'm not sure how to fix it. Ah well, the problems I have.

The Omega Code

Plugged In > Movies > The Omega Code:
"Summary: The Omega Code is without a doubt the most impressive apocalyptic thriller ever created by the Christian filmmaking community. Slick special effects. An interesting script. Globe-trotting location shots. In addition, a recognizable (if not A-list) cast gives the story a credibility boost..."

Is Joe holding you at gun point or are you trying to make up for his lack of antagonism? - Jenny

Now, did I say I agreed or disagreed with that link? I just found it interesting, that's all. Speaking of that, I don't see a lot of pro-GWB stuff on blogs that I read. Does that mean that computer people are naturally liberal, or I just bloggers who share the same interest as me? That site did have some interesting points that I thought Todd would counter, but he just called them crazy so maybe he can't?

Ah ravioli, we meet again.

The workout definitely helped. I feel sore and tired, but in a better mood. Crap, that means I have to keep going. We are doing 15-18 reps this week. Not a fun time had by all. I am getting better on back extensions however. Not that I'm ready for a competition or anything.

The problem with working out

Feeling pretty crappy today. Not sick, just blah. I blame working out. You see, I haven't worked out since Friday and I've felt progressively worse everyday. That's the problem with working out, you have to keep doing it. You can't just workout whenever. You get used to that endorphin high and all that stuff. Then you don't get the good feeling and then it just drags you down. Don't start working out unless you have staying power. I'll be working out today at lunch so we'll see if my theory holds water. Whatever that means.

BushRevealed.com - The Truth About President Bush Without Reservation: "So many well-meaning Christians continue to reject the Truth about President Bush for the sake of conservatism. As Christians, we are not conservatives, but disciples of Jesus Christ who recognize and proclaim where right and wrong come from, therefore we must vote righteously."

Understanding Poverty in America

Understanding Poverty in America: "The typical American defined as 'poor' by the government has a car, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a stove, a clothes washer and dryer, and a microwave. He has two color televisions, cable or satellite TV reception, a VCR or DVD player, and a stereo. He is able to obtain medical care. His home is in good repair and is not overcrowded. By his own report, his family is not hungry and he had sufficient funds in the past year to meet his family's essential needs. While this individual's life is not opulent, it is equally far from the popular images of dire poverty conveyed by the press, liberal activists, and politicians."

No Greg No!

This made me laugh

saw this review on amazon about Every Man's Battle : Winning the War on Sexual Temptation One Victory at a Time: "Read at your own risk, December 21, 2003
Reviewer: A reader from San Jose, CA USA
My wife and I have been married for 32 years. Our pastor had mentioned this book at a workshop and we thought it would be wonderful to have such a guide to help us purify our souls.
Well let me tell you, the amount of turpitude portrayed within these pages is not to be believed. Worse, these descriptions awoke things in us we never thought imaginable. Lately my wife has been experimenting with bondage and domination, and her mistress has moved in with us. She is completely controlling our lives, and won't even let us go to church anymore. I'm not even allowed to use the computer, hopefully she won't find out I wrote this review before she got home. Be careful about this book. It can ruin your life. It ruined mine. "

Newsboys Adoration: The Worship Album

I haven't purchased a newsboys cd since John James left the band (Take me to your leader). After hearing He Reigns though, I knew that I had to give them another chance. This cd is a worship cd so it's has more Christian speak in it than other newsboys cds. Sometimes that's not a bad thing. Here's my thoughts on this cd.

He Reigns
Easily the best song on the cd. Best song I've heard in years. Just an awesome praise song. I love the line -
Of all the songs sung from the dawn of creation
Some were meant to persist

This one was meant to persist. Plus I'm a sucker for songs that have a choir backing up a rock band.

You are my king (Amazing Love)
We sing this song at church and I never really liked it. I really paid attention to the words when I heard it on this cd and wow did it hit me. I really like this song. The boys do a great job on this one.

Great is your faithfulness
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it. Actually I skipped it after listening to it for about 30 seconds. I just didn't like it. Man was I wrong. I love how this song ends. I'm still not happy about the start of it but it really builds well. Excellent ending. Makes me want to stand up.

Take My Hands (Praise)
A little more upbeat. Sounds like some of their earlier stuff. Not much else to say about it.

Adoration
This reminds me of another of their songs from Going Public but I can't put my finger on which one. Or was it Take me to your leader? Not sure. Decent enough. Another song that has a strong finish.

In Christ Alone
No, not that one. Slow song that I have to be in the mood for to like. The song is just kind of there. Nothing really stands out. This will probably get skipped more often than not. Good lyrics, though.

Lord (I Don't Know) - Live
Live songs are sometimes a bad thing. This one is ok. I don't know if this is from another album or not. I've been out of the newsboys loop for a while. This song is good but not memorable. You probably won't catch me singing it in the car.

It is you - Live
This is another good song. You'll catch yourself singing the chorus. Perfectly acceptable singing.

Father, Blessed Father
I enjoy this song. It sounds very hymn-like but I still enjoy it. Another choir background song as well. Little callback in the song to breathe. Cool.

Hallelujah
Final song on the cd. How does it wrap things up? Happy little beat at the beginning. Nice and calm. The chorus is simple but effective. A nice closing that fits the theme very well.

The lyrics on this cd are great as always. Peter Furler and Steve Taylor wrote most of them. They are incredible at what they do.

guitarzan

Help Shawn! I got the guitar bug again. I need some major tunage on the guitar. I also need to pick a song to learn. Any suggestions anyone? Serious inquiries only.

writer's block

I've been in Barnes and Noble twice this week and both times I've had a book on writing ideas in my hand to get. I just can't pull the trigger. What is it about writing that intrigues me and what is it about writing that makes me not want to do it? Laziness to the latter, I'm sure. I like the idea of writing, but I can't seem to put it into practice. They say to write at least a 1000 words everyday to practice, but what would I say? I don't have that kind of willpower to sit and write. Or do I? The world may never know.

new blogger - rich

Interesting site

Are you ashamed?

Hebrews 2:11
Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.

Man that pokes and prods at me. How many times do I keep quiet as if ashamed of Jesus? I'd like to think I've gotten better at this over the years. Gaining more perspective about what really matters, God's view of me not other people's view of me. But I still struggle with this. I'm around Christians most of the time so it doesn't really come up, but when I get around someone who I don't know if they are Christians or not, I'm not bold in my faith that's for sure. Something to add to the list of goals. Be bold in my faith. Man that bible has good stuff in it, doesn't it?

Woooooooooooo!

Got my first win on madden online last night. Beat a guy who had a 6-2 record. It was a really close game until the 4th quarter. We were tied at the end of each quarter. In the 4th I had a couple of interceptions and some good clock management. I even rushed for 100 yards with Priest Holmes. Felt pretty good about that game. He wanted to play again right after that but I was tired. He was a good opponent though. I still need to work on my defense. I could not stop Terrell Owens. One goal checked off.

Update on the goals.

I'm one book closer. I finished The big book of death over the weekend and am about a 1/6th of the way thru the Dickie V book. He's all over the place in this book. I'm not sure what the point of him writing a book was. Played online this weekend with Madden. Had a lot of connectivity issues with Rich but hopefully that is resolved. Played a guy named Cheatzcoffee or something. He cheated. When I was ready to kick a field goal he switched the camera view on me to zoom so I couldn't see anything. I couldn't get the view switched back so I missed it of course. Then he kept running this play where he would do a fake punt and then do a hurry up offense. My guys for some reason would not cover his WRs so he would get a TD. And he onside kicked after every TD he scored. That being said, I still had a chance but threw a costly INT down only a TD. I ended up losing by 2 TDs but I finished the game. He kept telling me to quit but I didn't want to give him the satisfaction. One day I will win. Another goal that I didn't include the other day was getting a AA on DDR Max 2 in light mode. Harder for me than it sounds but I did it over the weekend. Easy song, but I'll take it.

music downloads

TechTV | Downloads by the Dozen. I think walmarts price is good. That's about $8.80 for a cd instead of $18 like at the vineyard. Plus I really like the ability to download particular songs instead of getting the whole cd. The problem then becomes which music player do I get. Ipod? Dell DJ? Ipod mini? Napster? The napster one is interesting because it has an fm tuner and you can tune your car stereo to it and play the songs over your radio (like Mr. Microphone). It's more $ than the Dell though. And Ipod is just ipod. So who knows.

Challenge

The gauntlet has been laid down. Or whatever. I have been challenged by Rich to a game of madden online. Will this be the elusive first victory online for me? We shall see.

Shake shake shake

Online Etch-a-Sketch. That's pretty cool.

Watched Seabiscuit last night. A good movie. Not movie of the year or anything, but it was good. Not your normal movie telling. This is based on a true story and it seems they didn't do any normal "movieing" to it as far as the plot goes. I can't believe Tobey Maguire risked Spiderman2 to do this though. It's not worth it, dude.

Liar liar

I didn't post the goals. Last night we watched The Long Kiss Goodnight instead. Best Geena Davis movie. Either that or Earth Girls are Easy. Anywho, here's the list of goals for this year. Quick and dirty:

dunk a basketball
pay off car, truck, and best buy
learn to play one song on the guitar
lose 20 lbs
write a short story
learn php and mysql
build a computer
try to get a kid's book published
do a background study on a book of the bible
learn to make a decent cup of coffee
read 20 books (all different subjects)
bench 200 lbs
run a 5k (august 2)
hit homerun from both sides of the plate in softball
help lead a men's study at church
Get on Backatcha!
Beat someone on madden online
Compliment Laura once a day

198. That's what the scales said. Yikes! Ok, one of my goals this year is to lose 20 lbs. That would put me at about 20 lbs overweight. Should I rethink the goal? Speaking of goals, I will be posting them tonight. Promise. I am also ashamed of my legs. Why have you left me? I used to have strength there. However, doing squats today made me realize that I have no strength. Man do they hurt.

At this point the question must be asked. Do we even need the forums back? What if we had a community blog instead? Does anyone have an opinion? Leave a comment.

Mystery solved

I know what I'm doing with my Christmas money. Joining fee at the YMCA should take most of it. Actually $75 worth. Ah the price of buffness. Now, do I put the remaining 25 to the first month's fee or do I "splurge" on something else. I think I'm going to go ahead with the higher priced monthly fee just so I can be in the better locker room and have access to the whirlpool or whatever. I demand comfort. Plus some old naked guy put his hand on my shoulder today in the cheap locker rooms. Thanks but no thanks, my man.

broken

On Friday I had just decided to be content with my current digital camera. I had been wanting a new one but I decided that mine works and I would just use it and quit complaining about it. Well, the viewfinder broke on it that very night. I can use the LCD screen to find out what I'm taking, but that sucks the battery life down pretty quick. I found this page so I'll try that tonight. If not, I think I have to get a new camera. God will provide if I need it. If not, I'll continue on with a partially functioning camera.

I'm switching to shasta

Yeah, there's not a whole lot of light (a lot of heat though) coming out of it. I've abandoned the idea of adding lights due to it probably would be a building code violation or something.

If You Could See What I See
by Geoff Moore

all of my life
i have dreamed
that somehow love would find me
now i can't believe you're standing here

If beauty is all
in the eye
of the beholder then i
wish you could see
the love for you that lives in me

(Chorus)
And you would know you have my heart
If you could see, what i see
that a treasure's what you are
if you could see, what i see
Created to be
the only one for me
If you could see, what i see

I know there are days
when you feel
so much less than ideal
wondering what i see in you

It's all of the light
and the grace
your belief in me drives me to say
that i promise you
a faithful love, forever true

(Chorus)

if you could see
then you'd understand
why i fall down to my knees
and i pray my love
will be worthy of
the one who gave his life
so our love could be

if you could see
what i see(x2)

You're created to be
The perfect one for me
If you could see
What i see

if beauty is all
in the eye
of the beholder then i
am beholding...
true beauty

Shopping

Went to go to the vineyard last night because we got some gift cards for there for christmas and they were closed! What? Why would any store be closed on New Year's day. You'd think that would be prime shopping time. So I still have my gift cards.

Thursday, January 01, 2004

Happy New Year.

So I have $100 that I got for Christmas. What to do with it? The wisest thing would be to pay some debt. The noble thing would be to donate it. The selfish thing would be to buy something from my wishlist with it. I can't bring myself to do any of it. What's the deal?
