Honor, Friendship, Fisting ????

It's Karate, Kid the Musical - Honor, Friendship, Fisting "IT'S KARATE, KID! THE MUSICAL is an outrageous riff on the beloved '80s film. Under the manicured guiding hand of a mystical maintenance man, our hero wages war against pill-popping, white trash deviants; well-styled, bloodthirsty karate students; rampaging hormones; and many more "unsavory things."

Featuring 19 ferocious new songs, including "Wax On! Wax Off!," A' My Name is Ali," and We are the Bitchkicks," this KID trolls the depths of bad taste and strikes musical gold! "

Um....maybe they need to work on that tagline.

After the long weekend, here we go....

Got a big basketball game tonight at CFC. Our team (Jamie,Shawn, and me) plays Paul's team. Jamie tells me we'll only have 6 people. Hopefully that will not be a bad thing. Depends on the missing people.

Thanksgiving went over ok I think. Mostly done fried turkey made for a nervous day, but all in all it went alright. Played some Burnout 3 with the Bacons. Didn't do much really over the break. I actually braved the crowds on Friday for a small time. Went to Target to get a Lite Brite Easel for Abby since it was $10 off. Only had to wait in line for about 20 minutes, which is nothing compared to the reported 3 hour wait times at Circuit City. Walked into Best Buy and saw the line snaked throughout the store so I decided to call it a day. Next year I stay home and sleep in.

It's very cold here in the office. We do not have a furnace currently. I must start dressing warmer. No long johns though. Maybe I'll bring in a coffee maker.
Busy weekend coming up. Friday is the Kid's Choir concert at CFC that Emily is in. Saturday is office Christmas party. Sunday is Luke's birthday. This month is busy, which I'm sure it is for most.

I have one project at work that I have to get done by the end of the year. I need some inspiration on how to do it the best way. I'll keep digging thru it.
It's been a while since I posted just stuff and not links. This is nice.

I hope to get the For Rent movie transferred to DVD by the end of the year. I think it would make a nice New Year's party feature presentation. Maybe. I'm considering getting some interviews from the "actors" and putting a special features section in the disc. I have the software to do it, the big part is getting the movie from tape to the computer. I might just hook up the vcr straight in because it isn't working too well with the camcorder straight in. The wires aren't very high quality so I can't get a great transfer. I may not be able to get one anyway, but I'll try a few different things. Every time I go to my film class I get the urge to work on this movie, but by the time I get home it's late and the urge is gone.

I'm contemplating making a goals list for next year that is quite ambitious. I don't know though, because I won't even complete the one's off this year's list and it wasn't all that hard. I probably will though. That's it.

Meanwhile, Artest is promoting his record label, Truwarier, and said that with his other career endeavors (a rap album, a possible book deal) he was staying optimistic.

'I'm trying to be positive,' he said. 'I'm a big fan of the Nobel Peace Prize.'"

A lot of bread

: "A Florida woman who said her 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich bore the image of the Virgin Mary will be getting a lot more bread after the item sold for $35,814.79 on eBay.

GoldenPalace.com, an online casino, confirmed it placed the winning bid, and company executives said they were willing to spend 'as much as it took' to own the 10-year-old half-sandwich with a bite out of it."

Ah, hunting

5 hunters dead after Wis. treestand dispute
By Joshua Freed
Associated Press — Nov. 22, 2004

BIRCHWOOD, Wis. — A dispute among deer hunters over a tree stand in northwestern Wisconsin erupted Sunday in a series of shootings that left five people dead and three others injured, officials said.

Jake Hodgkinson, a deputy at the county jail, identified the suspect as Chai Vang but would give no additional details.

Several news organizations in Minneapolis-St. Paul reported the suspect was 36 years old and from St. Paul.

The incident happened when two hunters were returning to their rural cabin on private land in Sawyer County and saw the suspect in one of their tree stands, County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle said. A confrontation and shooting followed.

It's not known who shot first, Zeigle said.

Both men were wounded and one of them radioed back to the cabin. Other hunters responded and were shot, he said. Some of the victims may have shot back at the suspect, Zeigle said.

The suspect was "sniping" at the victims with a SKS assault-style rifle, Zeigle said. He was "chasing after them and killing them," he said.

The dead included four males, including a teen-age boy, and a woman, Zeigle said. The man who radioed for help was not fatally wounded. Some of the victims were shot more than once.

All five were dead when officers arrived, he said.

Authorities found two bodies near each other and the other three were scattered around the area, which is near Town of Meteor in southwestern Sawyer County. Two people who stayed in the cabin emerged safely after the shootings.

The suspect, who did not have a compass, got lost in the woods and two other hunters, not knowing the man was being sought in the shootings, helped him find his way out, Zeigle said.

When he emerged from the woods, a Department of Natural Resources officer recognized the deer license on his back, given to police by a victim, Zeigle said.

The man was out of bullets when they arrested him, Zeigle said.

One of the injured hunters was in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital. Another was listed in serious condition and the third was in fair condition, both at Lakeview Medical Center.

Wisconsin's statewide deer gun-hunting season started Saturday and lasts for nine days.

Bill Wagner, 72, of Oshkosh, was about two miles away near Deer Lake with a party of about 20 other hunters. He said the incident was "very upsetting."

After they got word of a shooting, he and others went to round up the rest of the party. He said they heard sirens, planes and helicopters and noticed the surrounding roads blocked off.

"When you're hunting you don't expect somebody to try to shoot you and murder you," he said. "You have no idea who is coming up to you."

The incident won't stop their hunt, he said.

"We're all old, dyed-in-wool hunters," he said. "We wouldn't go home because of this, but we will keep it in our minds. We're not forgetting it."

Big Burger

As many fast-food chains introduce healthier fare amid fears of being sued, Hardee’s is bucking the trend, serving up a megaburger with 1,420 calories and 107 grams of fat.

St. Louis-based Hardee’s Food Systems Inc. Monday rolled out its Monster Thickburger — two one-third-pound slabs of Angus beef, four strips of bacon, three slices of cheese and mayonnaise on a buttered sesame seed bun. The sandwich alone sells for $5.49 or $7.09 with a medium fries (520 calories) and soda (about 400 calories).

In an interview on CNBC, Hardee's chief executive Andrew Puzder was unapologetic, saying the company's latest sandwich is "not a burger for tree-huggers."

Congress wants to outlaw fast-forwarding through commercials - Engadget - www.engadget.com
But there’s another part of the Intellectual Property Protection Act that should perk up your ears (assuming they aren’t already suitably perky). They want to make it illegal to use software or hardware to skip all of those commercials and previews that the studios are placing before the beginnings of movies on DVDs, something which is freaking ridiculous since it’s your DVD playing on your DVD player in your home. How about making it illegal to not pay attention, too?

Sammy Sosa complains about lineup spot

Yahoo! Sports - MLB - Sammy Sosa returns to Dominican Republic, complains about lineup spot: Sammy Sosa returns to Dominican Republic, complains about lineup spot
By ENRIQUE ROJAS, Associated Press Writer October 30, 2004SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) --
Sammy Sosa was humiliated by being dropped to sixth in the Chicago Cubs lineup, and claims he was mistreated by the club.

When he struggled down the stretch of the season, Cubs manager Dusty Baker lowered the slugger in the batting order -- much to Sosa's dismay.

``I'm not a sixth batter,'' Sosa told Hoy newspaper in Santo Domingo on Saturday upon returning to his native Dominican Republic. ``I'm a cleanup hitter or third because I've earned that right with almost 600 career home runs.'' Sosa arrived late to the finale at Wrigley Field and then left the game early without playing. The Cubs fined him $87,500 -- one day's salary -- because of his actions.

``I know I screwed up and I can assure you that I've asked for forgiveness,'' Sosa told the newspaper. ``But I also need to say that I felt poorly treated.

``So many things happened that I was in shock. I needed to rest that day because I wasn't going to be able to give it my best.''

Sosa has a year left on his contract that will pay him $17 million, and the club has an option for 2006. Trade rumors have already started, and the New York Mets are reportedly interested.

The former All-Star has hit 574 home runs during 16 major league seasons, and Sosa says he plans to play into his 40s.

``I'm going to play at least another five or six seasons, hitting 35 home runs a year,'' he said. ``That would allow me to finish my career with 700 home runs.''
