Hat Fight

War of the Baseball Caps: "One can never know how delicately balanced a long-term truce is until its equilibrium is shattered by the weight of a straw. A straw that lands as if it were a ten-pound hammer.

That straw was a few kids wearing ball caps in the worship service."

Laura posted a nice recap of our trip to flordia. Check it out.

And....I started boxing.

news on the cheap?

I've been thinking lately that local news could be done a bit differently. Instead of relying on the news teams couldn't we have some citizen journalists do their own thing? I think WEVV would be prime for this because they don't have any local news right now. How expensive would it be to accept user created content for a half hour a day show on local happenings? Think of the publicity this would get early on. WKRN-TV in Nashville is making the switch. Sure there would be some rough edges and a little editing involved, but I think the cost/benefit would be worth the risk. Maybe start out with a once a week show and then move that to a daily show based on the amount of participation.

Tourists Flock to Superman's Adopted Home - Yahoo! All things Superman rule here, from the 15-foot bronze statue of the buff comic-book hero on Superman Square to the 'S'-emblazoned T-shirts that can be found just about everywhere."

file this away for future reference

ESPN.com: Page 2 : Yup, these are my readers: "6. The Cha Cha Bowls (Pac Bell Stadium)
When I went to a Giants game five years ago, my friend Mikey dragged me to a BBQ place in the center-field bleachers for Cha-Cha bowls, saying, 'It's all about the Cha-Cha bowls.' You tend to trust the opinion of someone who once owned a mammoth Traci Lords video collection. At least I do. Anyway, he wasn't kidding – it was all about the Cha Cha bowls: Caribbean jerk chicken, beans, rice, BBQ sauce, other goodies … all in a big plastic bowl for just $8.50. Best ballpark food ever."

Ok, let's say you are on vacation. You get your digital camera out and take a picture of your kids and this is what it shows. Nice timing, eh? Fortunately if you bang on it and shake it, it fixes itself. Posted by Hello

Christians purge video game demons

BBC NEWS | World | Americas |: "The Devil, they say, has all the best tunes. Until now he has also had the video games market sewn up.

From the demonic violence of Doom to the sinister Resident Evil series, many of today's most successful titles draw inspiration from dark places.

But a growing band of Christian game developers are taking a stand.

Reverend Ralph Bagley, 41, is a man with a mission. 'I have always been a gamer since the days of Pong and Pacman,' he told BBC News.

'But as the games got nastier, I was getting pretty conflicted about coming home from church and playing things like Doom and Quake.

'I began to look for something else, but there was a gaping hole in the market.'

Earlier this year, the father of two founded the Christian Game Developers Foundation, aiming to drag Christian games from obscurity to the mainstream.

'Simply forbidding our children from playing video games is not the answer,' says Rev Bagley."

Honesty in sports?

Yahoo! Sports - MLB - Cardinals 7, Blue Jays 0: "``I was thinking about a no-hitter, no question about it. I thought I had a chance,'' Carpenter said.

The 30-year-old right-hander struck out 10 and walked one for his second shutout of the season and the seventh of his career. He threw 95 pitches, 68 for strikes."

also:

"A fan held up a sign that read: ``Thanks for four years of frustrating mediocrity Carpenter.'' Carpenter made a gesture toward the fan as he walked off the mound in the eighth and after he gave a postgame television interview.

``I tipped my hat to the guy that said 'Thanks for the four mediocre years,''' Carpenter said. ``He had a big old sign.'' "

Winsock Programmer's FAQ: The Lame List: "Calling strlen() on a hostent structure's ip address, then truncating it to four bytes, thereby overwriting part of malloc()'s heap header. In all my years of observing lameness, I have seldom seen something this lame.

Reason: This doesn't really need a reason, does it?

Alternative: Clearly, the only alternative is a brain transplant."

Major League Baseball : News :: "Strange place for a throwback? There's not a lot of regular-season Major League history in St. Petersburg, but the Cardinals will nonetheless wear throwback uniforms at Tropicana Field on Saturday, June 18. The Redbirds will don baby-blue outfits hearkening back to their 1982 World Series championship. After the game, they will autograph the uniforms and donate them to Tampa Bay's Rays of Hope foundation."

We will be at this game. I am a big fan of these jerseys as they have good memories attached to them.

Best Buy Not Always Best Buy

Best Buy Not Always Best Buy : Gizmodo: "The web browsers from within the store show many prices that are $20-$50 higher than the same web page when accessed from outside of the store (like in your house). This was confirmed to me by two store managers. If you ask for the lower price, they’ll honor it. So, you see a low price on the website (even when you select “in-store pickup”) and when you get to the store, the actual price is much higher.

Here’s an example.

Notice the “On Sale Now” yellow box on this web page. This camera sells for $359.99 on the web site (even when you choose “in-store pickup), but sells for $399.99 in store. The yellow box on the web page does not appear when using a web browser within any Best Buy store."

This represents an improvement over the last generation, in which Microsoft was rumored to lose approximately $100 per Xbox sold. "

Guardian Unlimited Film | News | Rambo coming out of retirement: "The red bandanna and the hunter's knife are back: Sylvester Stallone is set to reprise his role as Vietnam vet John Rambo, 17 years after his last outing.

Miramax/Dimension Films have sold Rambo IV's movie rights to a different production company, clearing the way for filming to start next January in Bulgaria, India and the US.

Stallone, now 58, will don combat trousers for a fourth time, this time to slug it out against American white supremacists bent on killing his wife and daughter. In the new film, the grunting killing machine has turned middle-class family man and has 'assimilated into the tapestry of America,' according Stallone, who is also the movie's scriptwriter. "

yeah

Lack of posts lately. It's not my fault. Really. I don't have much to say I guess. I've been working on another site in my spare time and that's been pretty much it as far as blogging goes. The site is www.evansvillestores.com. It's a directory (or will be) of stores in evansville that have websites. It's a rough draft right now but you'll get the drift of what's going on I think. Let me know what you think.
